We came in mid-February specifically to break up a long grey winter and this villa delivered everything we needed. Warm days, a lovely pool, easy access to the beach, and a town with enough character to fill two or three evenings. The property is well-maintained and comfortable. We cooked at the villa most evenings using the local market which is excellent. Came back with colour in our faces and a considerably improved mood.
We have stayed in various parts of the Dominican Republic over the years but this trip with Alex as host might be what finally makes us commit to Sosua as our permanent DR base. He has an instinct for what guests need without being asked. He knew we had a celebration during the trip and arranged a small poolside decoration that was completely unexpected and genuinely touching. The villa is beautiful, the location is ideal, but Alex's hosting is the differentiator.
We had a genuinely good week at this villa. The pool and outdoor space are the highlights ? generous and well-maintained. One of the bedroom ceiling fans was making a clicking sound on the second night and we mentioned it. A handyman came around the following afternoon and fixed it in about twenty minutes. We appreciated the prompt response. The property is comfortable and well-located. Would return.
Two families, July heat, a week of doing exactly what a summer holiday should be. The pool is the centre of it all: big enough for eight people to use simultaneously without anyone feeling cramped, clean every single morning. The kitchen is well-stocked for the self-caterers in our group. We did two excursions and the rest of the time stayed happily at the villa. Children's review: 'best holiday ever.' Probably their most accurate assessment.
We'd arranged for Jonathan to pick us up on arrival and after a long travel day having someone waiting with our names on a board was genuinely calming. He loaded all the bags without being asked, drove confidently, and on the way to the villa gave us a running commentary on the area ? what's worth doing, what to avoid, where locals eat rather than tourists. By the time we arrived we already had a list of plans for the week. The villa itself is lovely and comfortable. Good beginning to a very good trip.
