The villa itself is genuinely beautiful and very well-maintained. We had a good week here overall. The four stars rather than five come from noise: a neighbouring property appeared to have construction starting around 7:30am on three of our mornings. Alex acknowledged it immediately when we mentioned it, explained the situation (a neighbour's renovation he couldn't control), and offered a partial refund for the disruption which was a fair and honourable response. Everything about the villa and the host's character earns the full stars — the exterior noise is the only caveat.
We were mid-trip when we decided we weren't ready to leave. A quick message, a flexible host, and suddenly we had three extra days. The villa is genuinely comfortable in the way that makes you reluctant to give it up. The pool, the outdoor space, the kitchen — all of it feels like someone's home rather than a rental. February in Sosua has a pleasant unhurried quality. Best impulsive decision we made all year.
The first two weeks of January in the DR are genuinely special: the holiday rush has cleared, the weather is beautiful, and you have beaches and restaurants almost to yourself. This villa was the perfect base for exactly that kind of slow, quiet trip. Comfortable rooms, a beautiful pool, a well-equipped kitchen. We cooked most evenings with ingredients from the local market and found our pace within about 24 hours of arriving. One of the better holidays of recent years.
We arrived on the 22nd of December with eight family members and by Christmas Eve we were completely settled into the villa rhythm. Alex had suggested Rocio for Christmas Eve dinner and it was the best suggestion of the whole trip. She arrived in the afternoon, transformed the dining room into something genuinely festive with local flowers and candles she'd brought, and produced a dinner of slow-cooked lamb, yuca gratin, fresh salads, and a coconut dessert that had everyone asking for the recipe. We sat at that table until well past midnight. That Christmas Eve is already the one everyone compares all others to.
We came the week before Thanksgiving specifically to recharge before the holiday season chaos. Four adults, zero agenda. The villa was perfect for exactly that: a gorgeous pool for afternoon floats, a kitchen we used for simple self-catered dinners most evenings, and a location quiet enough to genuinely relax. Came back to Thanksgiving with the kind of calm that's almost impossible to manufacture. Grateful for this one.
